Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian artform developed in Brazil in the 1500's. Capoeira combines martial arts, music, song, dance, and acrobatics into a dynamic and beautiful form of expression. Originally developed as a form of defense, modern capoeira teaches practitioners how to overcome the challenges of life, as well as the challenges from within. The group Capoeira Angola Palmares was founded November 20th 1979 by Grande Mestre Nô in Salvador Bahia. Capoeira Angola Palmares NOLA & BR's mission is to promote, to preserve, and to teach the Afro-Brazilian artform of Capoeira Angola as passed down by the founder of Capoeira Angola Palmares, Grande-Mestre Norival Moreira de Oliveira (Nô).
